Every July the Residency sponsors the Summer Medical Institute in partnership with the Christian Medical and Dental Association. Medical, dental and nursing students from around the country enjoy four weeks of Bible and medical training as they learn to put Christ into practice. SMI participants work one-on-one with family practice faculty and residents in free clinics in Mexico and in the Texas colonias (local rural slums) learning to pray with patients, share the Gospel, and to do the basic primary care medicine in a third world setting.
     You will experience small group Bible studies, worship times and lots of fun activities including two days at the South Padre Island beach, Fourth of July party, sporting activities, movie nights, jam sessions, coffee houses and late night talking.
     SMI-Texas has ministered to hundreds of students and to over 10,000 patients and their families over the eight years of its existence.
